Sakai Takayuki Knives
SAKAI TAKAYUKI — knives that carry on the knife-making tradition of Sakai
SAKAI TAKAYUKI คืออีกด้านหนึ่งของมีดญี่ปุ่น — ด้านที่ยังผูกพันอยู่กับช่างฝีมือและวิธีการทำมีดแบบดั้งเดิมของเมืองซาไก
Sakai in Osaka Prefecture is one of Japan's most important knife-making centres, with a history of blacksmithing stretching back several hundred years. What makes Sakai knives different is the division of work between specialist craftsmen:
- Blacksmiths forge and heat-treat the steel
- Sharpeners shape the blade and create the edge
- Before each knife is assembled and finished
Instead of one person doing every step, each task is passed to someone who has spent many years mastering that specific skill — a defining feature of Sakai knife-making that continues to this day.
Sakai Takayuki is the brand of Aoki Hamono Seisakusho, a knife maker in Sakai founded in 1947, which registered the Sakai Takayuki name in 1964. Today it makes everything from traditional Japanese knives to Gyuto, Santoku and a wide range of modern kitchen knives.
The appeal of Sakai Takayuki isn't sharpness alone
It lies in being able to choose your knife in much more depth — from blade shape, type of steel, forging method and sharpening method to, for some lines, the craftsman who made it.
- From easy-care Stainless knives for everyday use
- To carbon steels such as White Steel and Blue Steel for those who want the sharpness and sharpening feel of traditional Japanese knives
- And specialist knives such as Yanagiba, Deba and Usuba — shapes developed specifically for Japanese food preparation
Sakai Takayuki isn't just one kind of knife — it is a world of Japanese knives you can explore step by step to match your work, your technique and the feel you want from each knife.
Choose by the work you do
Choose by the steel you like
And choose the knife that fits your hand
